Take Me Deeper

Lent: A Call to Conversion

Prayer, Fasting & Almsgiving.

Those words printed on the purple banner will capture you as you enter into IHM church. Indeed, lent was always a time for me to cleanse and renew myself.

I shared this with ZJ before. For me, lent was always a time for "spring-cleaning" and preparation and waiting. Like how the chinese do spring cleaning to prepare their homes for their visitors and relatives who will visit them.

And likewise, I feel it's important to do this "spring-cleaning" for myself to prepare my "home". For what and whom?

Lent: A Call to Conversion. Prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Why does the church encourages us to covert and repent?

Lent is also a time of anticipation for Easter. Jesus' resurrection and coming. Jesus is coming into the world again. "He died and rose again". He's not only just coming, but He'll be visiting each of us in our "homes". The "home" here refers to our hearts. The temple. How would you feel if you go to someone's house for a function and the place is messy. You see clothes, socks and dirty dishes all around.

Do you want Jesus to visit your "home" and see that you are filled with sins and bitterness and dirt?? How do you think He would feel?

I was reminded many times this lent to go into a deeper reflection and discovery. It was quite amazing, cos I thought my "spring-cleaning" this lent would be my usual.

Some of us find it tough to examine ourselves during lent. Me included. Most of the time we only scratch the surface and miss the opportunity to reflect inwards. We're just uncomfortable being under the magnifying glass to dig out all our "wrong-doings".

This lent I learnt so much. When we realise and see that God is moving so much in our lives and how He just loves us, we just want to turn away from all the bad and dirt. We feel motivated in choosing to be more like Jesus.

Let us ask God........"Oh God, search me".

Take me deeper
deeper in love with you
Jesus hold me close in your embrace
Take me deeper
deeper than I've ever been before
I just want to love you more and more
how I long to be deeper in love

This lent was a great time for me to clear away all the dirt that was hiding inside. And now, anticipating His coming. Let us wait for His coming and welcome Him with a clean heart!
