Without Christ, I am nothing

I still remember what my Primary 1 form teacher in St Gab's, Mrs Cecilia Tham, who happened to be teaching catechism in school one day, said in 1990 (yes, it's been quite a while...) -

"Do you all know what does it mean to be a Christian? It means to add Christ to IAN - I AM NOTHING..."

This memory has stayed with me all these years, but I never truly understood it. It was more like a novelty; a "did-you-know" kinda trivia. But recently, I finally understood why God has enabled me to remember this so vividly, especially since I'm a person who doesn't really remember lots of things in depth or with clarity.

My fellow rhinos and I have been reflecting a lot during this season of Lent... and we're all individually praying and discerning where the Lord wants to move us towards, individually and as a community. There is a lot of ministry to be done, and all of them are good. Yet which one is the Spirit leading us to do? Are we in them now cos of our vanity, pride? Are we living on stale bread, past highs and experiences? Are we reluctant to move?

I don't think we have the answers yet... but one thing's for sure; Without Christ, we are NOTHING.

And it's not easy being the rhinos. I think, to a certain extent, we brought this upon ourselves. What originally was meant to be a joke, a name that was given in jest, became something that is somewhat loud. Maybe it's cos we ourselves took this "rhino" thing too seriously... i dunno. But on Saturday, when Colin specifically mentioned us 4 in front of the YM, it really didn't go down too well with no.7 and I. The rhinos weren't meant to be distinctive from the rest of the community... the rhinos were meant to be a sign-post that pointed the way to Christ, a testimonial of God's love to be read. Christ be our Light... we are mere broken mirrors that reflect His beautiful array of Light.

Lord... please teach us humility
Like John the Baptist,
may we proclaim in Christ that
"You must increase, and we decrease"
Amen
(John 3:30)

A servant rhino

In order for a signpost to carry out what it's meant to do, it must stand out and stand tall from the others, otherwise, it gets lost in the crowd and is unable to function as a sign to show others the way.

The information highway is filled with all kinds of blogs - complains, frustrations, disappointments etc etc. Its really fresh to see 4 rhinos charging for God. Praise God and keep it up bros.
