Into Marvellous Light (2)

Hi all!

Yes, this is the Rhino left in Singapore come monday. (grrr kelly..heh.) The other Rhinos are on a Mission Trip to the Karimun Islands, Tanjung Balai (recall No.69 posting up the recruitment poster and the post on the recce?) Shall leave them to tell you their experiences when they return! When i went 2 years ago, it was a fantastic experience! Help me say hi to cute lil Timoti!

The pictures you see are from my recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand with my family and we were really blessed to stay at the Sheraton Hotel, overlooking the Chao Phraya River. The first pic u see was the scene that greeted us when we walked into the hotel suite. Interestingly, apart from the wide river and surrounding skyscrapers, what my family loved were the lil green floating plants in the river. heh. The second pic was taken around evening time, with a high ISO setting(for you camera buffs) Basically increases the sensitivity to light. (my personal fave of the three!) And the last, was of course, the beautiful night scene after a long day of shopping.

What I want to share, in relation to the title of the post, is: How people are drawn to the wonderful, marvellous gift of light! During the day, when everything is illuminated, we don't pay much attention to the gift of the wonderful sun. When night falls, suddenly everything that exudes light becomes attractive to the human eye. Christ in the world, is like this light, where people are irresistably drawn to Him, His love, His presence. (i share leonard's notion of an irresistable Christ, irresistable church.)

Though this world may be thrown into ages of darkness, we as disciples are called to be that light, to be that guiding ray from a solitary lighthouse bringing lost vessels(souls) into safety. Like Fr William Goh shared at Pentecost Rally '06, "As today marks the end of the Easter season, and the paschal candle is removed; we are called to be the continuing light of the church!"

"I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness" - Jn 12:46.

In the many controversial issues of today's society, e.g. premarital sex, abortion, concerns like smoking, excessive clubbing etc, we are called to be that light for Christ, even if majority of society may 'vote' / exercise their human rights for its propagation. Remember! It only takes a tiny glow from a candle to light up an entire room. It's definitely a tall order, to be set apart from the 'happening clique of friends', the socially accepted - normal people, but then again, Christ carried His cross all the way to Calvary.

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." - Matt 5:14,16

"Lord, to follow in Your footsteps is impossible by my human efforts. Give me the grace and strength to stumble after you, to be who You created me to be. I trust that believe that when i am weak, then You are strong."

A priest told me once, that for one human being to try to fathom the awesomeness of God would be to attempt to view St Peter's Basilica in darkness with just one puny birthday candle. All he/she would see is just that radii of vision his/her candle allows.

If we extend this analogy, then if a community of believers bands together in faith at a ministry, archdiocesan, national or global level, then the line of our sight in understanding who God is increases. For we are His church and He desires to 'illuminate the Basilica' for us, so that we may truly know how great our God is.

Indeed, we are called to step Into Marvellous Light, out of the darkness of not knowing Him the way He intended.
