Hello Rhino 69,

Metaphysics is certainly an interesting subject. Though I am no expert on the topic myself, I'd like to share some thoughts with you, as well as my own relationship with God.
Our human relationship with God had always existed as far back as we can see the sculpture of Venus of Willendorf from the Paleolithic era. God's intimate relationship with art, history, culture, civilisation, science and of course philosophy is such a palpable current in our search for life's meaning that the search itself is considered by many mystics to be the experience of God Him?Her?self...
Deity worship aside(though I view deification as another stage of human conception of God rather than idolatry; which is another story), monotheism had its roots in Zoroastrianism in the Persian Empire. If you've watched 300.
Metaphysics started being defined proper during Plato and has its firm roots in Aristotlelian ideas on the Pleroma and things in themselves. Primal Cause. Prime mover. God.
Aquinas further expounded on these ideas of Being/Non-being.
The departure towards more Positivist ideas about reality is as derived from Aristotlelian philosophy as much as it is a departure from it. Since we cannot possibly apprehend reality with our senses, our current Post-Modern thought revolves around the idea that 'The truth is that there is no truth.' Or at least the true nature of things in themselves cannot be understood by our 3 D perception of reality. The chain of cause and effect is way too long for it to be grasped by our senses mired by time and space.
Aristotle came up with some sort of Trinity when he mentioned "The Good, The Being and The One." Good being not our moral perception of what is good. But good being the nature of things in themselves. And perhaps this very nature of things in themselves is One.
Interestingly enough, Eastern philosophy and thought, manifested as early as Hindu thought (Vedantic texts) expound on the idea of One. And also a holy trinity of sat, chit and (I forgot the 3rd).
Quantum Physics is another interesting field which is developing theories of reality beyond space/time. Perhaps one day we may finally discover a universal law, expressed in some equation. Indeed the mystical Jews have always expressed their Hebrew God in terms of numbers in their Gematria and Notariqon. The holy Qaballa had always been very well known among Christian mystics.
Ultimately, whatever philosophy we subscribe to. However we wish to live our lives. However depressing times get, God is always there. Calling. As Rumi described in his Mathnawi, we are his flutes. And when God uses us, the sweet note we exude is that cry of longing for God. Who is the reed player?

In a way, all forms of thought. All actions. All desires. They all have their origins in God. However far these things make us feel from God, ultimately they all lead us back to God.
It's just how we see things.
