Kenny G - G for God?

I had the privilege to catch Kenny G live in all his sax-blowing action last friday at Max Pavilion.

I always knew i wanted to be a technically superior saxophonist than he already is, more commercially sucessfully and more famous.

But now, that aspiration doesnt mean anything to me. In retrospect, it has never meant anything.

The Lord has given me the opportunity to offer my talents back to Him, for the purposes of Kingdom-building through administering predominantly in the sectors of praise and worhip where musicality is concerned. And thus, over time, these muscial talents have become gifts.

By gifts, i refer to them as kingdom-building tools endowed by the grace of God while talents are skills acquired specifically through constant human efforts that include repetition to the task at hand.

There is a fine line between a gift and talent - when a talent becomes a gift, and when a gift becomes a talent and when it can even be both.

These days, i am pleasantly surprised by the realisation that 90% of the music i am making on a normal day is music of the Kingdom and the other 10% is from secular sources and of my own writing. Three years ago, it would have been 30% Praise music and 70% secular songs - thus illustrating the gradual evolution of talents into gifts from then till today.

Thank you Lord for revealing an order of renewed happiness and grace, of beauty and peace in the music i make so that i may sound off your cymbals in celebration of the joy of your abundant providence.

Lord, let me be a Kenny G for you.
